“Single Source” won a “Pentawards 2011” Gold Award. Lars would not have voted for it.

About Lars:
Lars G. Wallentin is beyond any doubt the world's most recognized packaging design specialist. For more than 30 years he has traveled the world to teach how to create brands, packaging and communication in the most efficient manner possible. Lars is also an exceptional showman. Each of his lectures is a real treat, where the audience learns while having fun. He is also highly appreciated as a jury member in design competitions. Today, Lars Wallentin continues his passion, giving advices to design agencies and brand owners all over the world.
Designworks of New Zealand has created this beer package winner. Here is their opinion on design and on themselves:
- When design works, it not only adds value to the business, but to people's lives. When strategic logic meets creative magic, things always change for the better. As New Zealand's leading strategic design practice, we have an unmatched capability and experience across a wide variety of disciplines. We transform business (and human) performance in a variety of industries by helping our clients move into market spaces they can truly own.
However, Wallentin, is not quite convinced in case of “Single Source Beer”.
Lars Wallentin:
Elegant, yes! Unique, yes! – but an all black (ah, we are in New Zealand!!) bottle for a lager beer, I doubt.
Beautiful design, but unless the beer is outstanding (which is difficult to judge, as all beers today are very well brewed) I think they have narrowed the consumer segment too much to only include design freaks like myself.
I would not have voted for this kind of “minimalist design”.
